Stephan Acevedo
Stephan Acevedo is a U.S Navy veteran. He commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Virginia Tech in May 2017. His previous operational assignments include Electrical Officer onboard USS FARRAGUT (DDG99) and Auxiliaries Officer onboard USS ASHLAND (LSD48), where he qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) and Tactical Action Officer (TAO). His shore assignments include Operations Officer for the United States Navy Ceremonial Guard and Joint Staff Planner for U.S. 6th Fleet. He separated from active-duty service in June 2025 and affiliated with the Naval Reserves as an Intelligence Officer.
Mr. Acevedo has completed over 7 deployments and FDNF patrols to the North Atlantic, Arctic, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Indo-Pacific theaters. While serving as Operations Officer, Mr. Acevedo served as the lead for naval ceremonial forces on behalf of Commandant, Naval District Washington in support of the State Funeral for former President Jimmy Carter as well as the 2025 Presidential Inauguration of President Donald Trump.
His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (second award), Ceremonial Duty Ribbon, and Arctic Service Medal.
Mr. Acevedo is currently a graduate student in the Security Studies program at Georgetown University, where he serves as on the Embassy Partnership Committee on the SSP Student Council. He hopes to concentrate his studies on Technology and Security with an emphasis on Artificial Intelligence and Nuclear Security Policy.
His research interests include future fleet architecture, maritime security, and U.S-China maritime competition.
Mr. Acevedo holds a bachelor’s in Biochemistry from Virginia Tech and a master’s in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University. In addition to Georgetown University, he is currently enrolled in the Fleet Seminar Program through the U.S. Naval War College, where he will receive a master’s in Defense and Strategic Studies.
